TIGE REEVE
Biography

Back to Images of Tige's Paintings

Artist Tige Reeve was born in Huntington Beach, California and raised in the high desert landscape of Reno, Nevada.   He pursued an education in fine art at the University of Nevada Reno, then studied graphic design at Watkins College of Art & Design after moving to Nashville, Tennessee.

"My background in design was essential to my development as an artist.  It has given me tools to better communicate visually through my works of art.  For me, creation is all about exploration.  Whether it is a new medium, technique or process, I am constantly problem-solving and pushing myself beyond where I have been before.”

Tige’s art transcends mere abstracts and speaks to complex, yet subtle layering of paint, iconography, typography and imagery, paired with integration of metal and organic elements.  With use of vivid earth hues and rich textures, each composition conveys sophistication and diversity.

Inspiration comes for journeys, and whether it is a memory of a South American dirt runway crowded with local children on rusted bikes, a sun-drenched isle of the Caribbean, or an emersion of history in the museums of Europe, Tige’s retention of his visual life experiences and travels are reflected in his production.  If it is something he’s read or a fable he creates in his own imagination…such stories are also all woven into the process.

Tige has been influenced by such important visual artists as Modigliani, Rousseau, Van Gogh, Kandinsky, Francis Bacon, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Picasso, and Chagall.

"I am constantly striving in life and in my artwork to create a sense of wonder and enjoyment and to broaden my perspective.  My work is my joy, which can bring validation to sheer existence.   I don't believe in balance.  I believe it is this "imbalance” that leads you on each unexpected journey!”
