Back to Images of Cathy's Bronze

Bronze by Catherine IrvingA lifelong fascination with animals combined with a love of horses is reflected in my art whether it is sculpture, painting, or drawing. My work is usually realistic with a great deal of attention paid to anatomical detail, form, and muscle structure. I strive for the unique beauty and spirit inherent in an individual animal. Sculpture provides me with the means to impart this vision three dimensionally. Clay and wax are my preferred media since they translate well into bronze. I also enjoy the more direct sculptural techniques possible with wood and stone. I welcome the challenges found in unusual or difficult projects and constantly look for ways to develop my skills as an artist.

I have exhibited nationally in shows including The American Academy of Equine Artist shows and exhibits (the 1999 juried show where my bronze, “Feeling Good” received The Founders Award and two prior years The Most Popular Sculpture Award, traveling exhibitions and the Pepper Tree Ranch Show in California). In 1977, The California Thoroughbred Breeders Association commissioned me to do their annual awards, which I did for 18 years. My work appears in many collections internationally (France, Japan, Ireland, England, and Australia) including those of Olympic gold medalist, Hilda Gurney and former President and Mrs. Ronald Reagan.
